1 Samuel 14:45 "And
the people said unto Saul, Shall Jonathan die, who hath wrought this great
salvation in Israel? God forbid: as the Lord liveth, there shall not one hair
of his head fall to the ground; for he hath wrought with God this day. So the
people rescued Jonathan, that he died not."
In our stories, usually
when a person is facing doom, they face it alone. It’s just the hero versus the
villain.
That usually works and it’s
what readers expect. But it’s not the only way to write a showdown.
Any group, family, or
community could rise up and support the protagonist. If it is written carefully
enough, we’ll cause our readers to cheer, rather than roll their eyes.
