1 Samuel 4:9 "Be
strong and quit yourselves like men, O ye Philistines, that ye be not servants
unto the Hebrews, as they have been to you: quit yourselves like men, and fight."
There are three kinds of
doomed situations to write about. One is a character who is doomed and knows he
is and how it will affect what he does in the time he has left.
Another is a character who
thinks she is doomed and is not necessarily. She plans to make the most of her
last breath and fight her battle with her enemy, even if it kills her.
The third is a character
or community who is doomed, but doesn’t know it. The reader knows and the
tension builds while the reader keeps hoping for a different and triumphant
ending, while watching the inevitable happen.
