Jeremiah 40:4 "And
now, behold, I loose thee this day from the chains which were upon thine hand.
If it seem good unto thee to come with me into Babylon, come; and I will look
well unto thee: but if it seem ill unto thee to come with me into Babylon,
forbear: behold, all the land is before thee: whither it seemeth good and
convenient for thee to go, thither go."
Revision needs to be
ruthless. We can’t go into the revision process thinking our work only needs a
little tweaking to be marketable.
It is possible, of course,
but we need to be prepared to make tough choices. We may need to cut out whole
sections of work that took us forever to write in the first place.
We will want to make good
decisions based on what serves the manuscript, the readers, and the editors. Revision
will only be as productive as we allow it to be.
