2 Kings 7:4 "If we
say, We will enter into the city, then the famine is in the city, and we shall
die there: and if we sit still here, we die also. Now therefore come, and let
us fall unto the host of the Syrians: if they save us alive, we shall live; and
if they kill us, we shall but die."
Our story will never reach
a satisfying conclusion unless our characters take chances. They need to do
what scares them so they can grow.
They need to keep taking
chances as the story goes on to keep the reader interested. Once they have done
one thing that scares them, we have to present them with an even more daunting
problem.
Each change they risk
taking brings them both closer and ironically farther away from the goal. At
the end, it will all pay off in a character who has grown because of the
adventure.
