2 Samuel 22:43 "Then
did I beat them as small as the dust of the earth, I did stamp them as the mire
of the street, and did spread them abroad."
Similes are when you
directly compare two different things. We actually use the words like or as.
It’s not usually wasted on
things that are alike. It’s mostly used for two very dissimilar
things.
Similes are intended to
bring up a vivid word picture and compare something familiar with something in
the piece that might be unknown to the reader. Some similes are so well-known,
writers will want to avoid them and instead think of something fresh.
