Genesis 4:5 "But unto
Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his
countenance fell."
We understand how Cain
felt. Rejections make our countenances fall, too. Also taking vengeance on
those who rejected us sounds like a good idea.
We grieve, mourn, get
angry, get depressed, get discouraged.
That's understandable. Take some time to process the rejection. Then get that
rejected piece out to another market.
The way to do that is first to put a limit on the amount of time
we wallow in despair. Then take another quick look at the piece to see if anything
needs improving. Take a look at the next market on the list to see if we need
to make any changes to re-target that particular market. Make sure we’re
submitting the piece according to the market’s requirements and to a market
that takes this kind of piece.
Then get that piece back out there! Vengeance and wallowing won’t get us published, but hard work and persistence eventually will.
