Deuteronomy 20:1
"When thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, and seest horses,
and chariots, and a people more than thou, be not afraid of them: for the Lord
thy God is with thee, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt."
If we want to write an
exciting story, the odds have to be stacked against our protagonist. He has to
be outnumbered, outmaneuvered, and outsmarted.
Our protagonist has to win
her victory the hard way. If things come too easily, our readers will become
bored with the story.
It’s a tough way to
live—in our lives, we look for things to be peaceful and easy. But real life cannot
keep us from putting out characters in impossible situations and then stacking
the odds of success against them.
